Dr. Scott Drimie

Scott Drimie leads a research and facilitation consultancy focused on food systems, food security and livelihood issues in southern Africa. The company consults for various public and private sector organisations and has a number of associates in the region.

He is an Associate Professor (Extraordinary) at Interdisciplinary Health Sciences at Stellenbosch University. He also serves as an Extraordinary Senior Lecturer at the Sustainability Institute, School of Public Leadership at Stellenbosch University (http://www.sustainabilityinstitute.net). He chairs the University’s Food Security Initiative.

Scott is the director of the Southern African Food Lab (http://www.southernafricafoodlab.org), a multi-stakeholder initiative that brings together diverse role-players in the regional food system to identify and pilot innovative means to achieve long-term, sustainable food security.

Before consulting and working with Stellenbosch, Scott was a research fellow with the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI). His major responsibility was the coordination of the Regional Network on AIDS, Livelihoods and Food Security or RENEWAL (www.ifpri.org/renewal), which facilitated research on the interactions between HIV and food and nutrition security and their implications for development policy and practice in southern and eastern Africa.

Prior to this, he established Scott Drimie and Associates in 2005 and was a Senior Research Specialist at the Human Sciences Research Council in South Africa.

Scott completed his PhD at Cambridge University in 2000, which focused on the post-apartheid South African land policy
